AustralianFootball.com Celebrating the history of the great Australian game
Formed in 2017, the Breakers enjoyed an excellent debut season on the whole only to falter at the final hurdle. After winning all 14 home and away matches contested they disposed of the second semi final challenge of Warragul with some comfort, 8.5 (53) to 4.4 (28). Somewhat surprisingly, their grand final opponents turned out not to be Warragul, but Tyabb, who had kept the Colts totally scoreless in their preliminary final clash. The flag decider proved to be an intensely fought affair and when the final siren went the scoreboard showed Tyabb with a single point advantage, 4.5 (29) to 4.4 (28). Sadly, all the hard work the Breakers players had put in over the course of a long, hard season was outdone in under two hours and by the narrowest possible margin.
The 2018 season saw amends emphatically and impressively made as the Breakers again topped the ladder prior to the finals and went on to procure the flag by means of a 5.4 (34) to 2.8 (20) grand final defeat of Tyabb.
